I was allowed to sleep in today but due to the past week of waking up so early I didn’t make it past 8am. It worked out though because Helene and I had to get Yellow Fever vaccinations or else we weren’t going to be allowed back in to South Africa. The process was easy enough and cheap compared to how much I would have paid back home. I also got a few doses of the anti Malaria tablets. Afterwards I went to the bookstore next door and purchased parts 2 and 3 to the sequel of Eragon.
For lunch we met up with Kevin and Grainne and explored the small town a bit. Even though the town was nice I think we were all more excited about our 2pm plan to go quad-biking over the sand dunes of the Namibian Desert.
It’s hard to compare anything to it because it’s close to the most fun I’ve ever had. I was singing and shouting the whole ride in enthusiasm. I even filmed parts of it while riding which I’m sure won’t do it justice but will be fun to look back on. We rode around for over 2 hours before heading back to the lodge. At one point we went over an enormous sand dune and on the other side of it lay the Atlantic Ocean. While riding it feels like you’re in waves of sand and then so quickly you pop up above the rest and see the true waves that lie west. The experience was incredible and I would love to do it again in the future!
That evening we went out to dinner again with everyone and shared stories of what each of us did during the day. Some of us just did tours around the town taking pictures, some went sand boarding, and some just had a relaxing day doing nothing. Overall, our time in Swakopmund was well spent and everyone had a great time.
